Rumoured God of War spin-off reportedly pushed to 2026

It looks like Kratos will be taking a long break. Recent leaks suggest the next God of War game might be internally delayed until 2026! This news comes from renowned journalist Jeff Grubb, who mentioned in a recent Giant Bomb podcast that Santa
Monica Studio is working on an entirely new entry in the series, quite different from what fans are used to.

According to these leaks, the upcoming title will be a 2.5D Metroidvania-style game, combining classic side-scrolling gameplay with modern graphics. The game's storyline is set in Greece, focusing on a younger version of Kratos during his early years.

Rumors about this project have been circulating for quite some time, suggesting the game's narrative will delve into Kratos' life before he became the iconic God of War, particularly highlighting his complex relationship with his father and exploring his mysterious past in Greece, a side of the character previously unseen.

Initially described as a smaller side project, further leaks revealed that the game evolved into a substantial, ambitious adventure with Metroidvania mechanics, promising extensive exploration, puzzles, and intense combat.

So far, Sony and Santa Monica Studio have remained officially silent, releasing no statements about the upcoming game. The last entry in the franchise, God of War: Ragnarok, was released in 2022, achieving massive success and featuring expansions like Valhalla that significantly heightened fans' expectations for any future projects from Santa Monica.

Fans are eager to see how Kratos' story will be reimagined from a new perspective, especially as this installment promises to uncover new secrets from his past. However, the prolonged delay might also dampen the excitement for some fans.

As we await an official announcement from Sony, it seems clear that Santa Monica Studio is preparing something truly worth the wait.
