A Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Movie Is in the Works at Paramount

Night City could be heading to the big screen. Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie, bringing CD Projekt Red's futuristic universe into a new medium. The news emerged on October 8, 2026, with the game's developer involved as a producer alongside Hollywood veteran Lorenzo di Bonaventura. For Cyberpunk fans, it's an exciting development, although the project is still keeping its biggest details under wraps.

Who Is Behind the Cyberpunk 2077 Movie?

The upcoming adaptation brings together Paramount Pictures, CD Projekt Red and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Di Bonaventura is known for his work on the Transformers and G.I. Joe film franchises, making him a familiar name in big-screen action and science fiction. CD Projekt Red's participation is particularly significant because the studio behind the game will be involved in producing its cinematic adaptation.

Will the Movie Take Us Back to Night City?

The film is confirmed to take place within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, but its exact setting and storyline have not been revealed. The original game introduces players to Night City, a futuristic metropolis shaped by powerful corporations, advanced technology and cybernetic enhancements. That world offers plenty of possibilities for a cinematic story, whether the filmmakers eventually choose familiar characters or explore another corner of the Cyberpunk universe.

Could Keanu Reeves Return as Johnny Silverhand?

One of the biggest questions concerns Keanu Reeves, who portrays Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077. His involvement in the upcoming Paramount movie has not been announced. No cast members have been officially identified, so any suggestion that Reeves will return should be treated as speculation rather than a confirmed detail. The same applies to appearances by V or other familiar characters from the game.

Cyberpunk Has Already Expanded Beyond Gaming

This is not the first time CD Projekt Red has explored storytelling beyond the original game. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created in collaboration with Studio Trigger for Netflix, brought a standalone anime story into the same universe. The franchise also expanded through the novel Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE. The Paramount film represents another opportunity to explore the setting through a different storytelling format.

What Happened to the Earlier Live-Action Project?

Long before the Paramount movie was reported, CD Projekt Red announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content on October 5, 2023. That earlier initiative was described as a live-action project intended to tell a new story within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The available announcements do not establish whether the new Paramount film replaces that project, continues it or represents a separate production.
