    Why a Switch?

    Because Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong are only here. Nintendo does not put its own games on anything else, so there is no other machine, no other store and no sale that gets you them. If you want to play them, this is the console you play them on.

    And it is one machine, not two. It sits in the dock under the TV, and when someone else wants the screen you pull it out and keep playing from exactly where you stopped. Nothing to sync, nothing to transfer, no second device to buy.

    If you are moving up, nothing is lost. Switch 2 plays the Switch games you already own, so the library you built comes with you and you are only paying for the machine, not for the collection all over again.

    Nintendo Switch questions

    Does the Switch need a special TV?

    No. Any TV with an HDMI port works, and you can always play in handheld mode without a TV. In TV mode, Switch 2 outputs up to 4K at 60 fps on a 4K TV, or 1080p/1440p at up to 120 fps on compatible TVs. The original Switch outputs up to 1080p. Switch Lite is handheld only.

    How long does the battery last?

    Nintendo rates Switch 2 at about 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game, and about 3 hours to charge in sleep mode. The current original Switch and Switch OLED are rated at about 4.5 to 9 hours, and Switch Lite at about 3 to 7 hours.

    What kind of screen does it have?

    Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD with HDR10 and up to 120 Hz. Switch OLED has a 7-inch 720p OLED screen, the original Switch a 6.2-inch 720p LCD, and Switch Lite a 5.5-inch screen.

    Are Switch games only for kids?

    No. Every game carries a PEGI age rating on the box, from family games to 18+ titles. Nintendo's free Parental Controls app lets you limit play time and restrict games by age rating.

    Can I replace the dock if it breaks?

    Yes. The dock is sold separately as an accessory. A Switch 2 needs a Switch 2 dock; the original Switch dock can't be reused with it.

    Do I need a special HDMI cable?

    Use the HDMI cable in the box. For 4K or 120 Hz on Switch 2, the cable and TV must support HDMI 2.1 speeds (an Ultra High Speed cable); for everything else a standard HDMI cable is fine.

    Does Switch 2 play my Switch games?

    Most of them, yes, but not every single game. And many new releases still come out for both — EA Sports FC 27, for example.

    How much storage does Switch 2 have?

    256 GB built in. To add more for Switch 2 games you need a microSD Express card (up to 2 TB); older microSD cards can't run Switch 2 games.

    What is a Game-Key Card?

    Some Switch 2 boxes hold a key to the game rather than the full game. You insert it, download the game once over the internet, and keep the card in the console to play.

    What does Nintendo Switch Online give me?

    Online play, cloud saves for most games and a library of classic NES, Super NES and Game Boy games. The Expansion Pack adds Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and SEGA Mega Drive classics, and GameCube classics on Switch 2.

    Will an eShop card work in Egypt?

    eShop cards are country-specific: a card only redeems on a Nintendo Account set to the same country. There is no local Egyptian eShop, so accounts here are usually set to another country — buy the card for your account's country.

    How do I redeem an eShop code?

    On the console, open Nintendo eShop, choose your account, select Enter Code and type the 16-character code. You can also redeem it at ec.nintendo.com/redeem after signing in.

    Which Switch should I buy?

    Switch 2 if you want the newest games at their best on a TV and in your hands. The original Switch or Switch OLED if you want the lower price and the huge existing library. Switch Lite if it's only ever played handheld, often by younger players.
