Pywel's adventure has officially expanded beyond its familiar shores. The Crimson Desert DLC, Charting the Unknown, is now available following Pearl Abyss's October 29 announcement, bringing new stories and major additions to exploration. Saudi players have a separate development worth watching: the publisher has confirmed regulatory approval for the expansion, but its digital release in the Kingdom is still being prepared. That's an important difference from a permanent regional ban.

Crimson Desert DLC Features

  • Ocean Exploration Travel beyond the coastline, discover islands and explore underwater ruins.
  • New Character Stories Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each receive an additional personal storyline.
  • Relationships Build closer bonds with characters in Pywel, with romance and marriage possibilities.
  • Castles and Housing Expand home customization and develop properties connected to liberated strongholds.
  • Business Management Manage facilities and commercial activities across regions of Pywel.
  • Garden of Trials Return to boss encounters through a dedicated combat challenge.

The biggest change may be how much further the world now stretches. Pearl Abyss has introduced ships, maritime activities, diving and underwater mounts, making the ocean a meaningful new area to explore. Players can also discover hidden treasure and unfamiliar islands. I like that the expansion doesn't limit itself to another sequence of battles. It introduces activities that could change how players spend time throughout Pywel.

Saudi Arabia Release Update

  1. September 30, 2026 Release Rescheduled Pearl Abyss moves the expansion's launch to allow additional development and polishing.
  2. October 29, 2026 Global Launch Charting the Unknown becomes available on supported international platforms.
  3. October 30, 2026 Saudi Approval Confirmed The publisher announces GMEDIA approval and preparations for local digital availability.

The regional situation has already moved forward. In an official notice dated October 30, Pearl Abyss said the expansion had received approval from Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Media Regulation, GMEDIA. The company explained that preparations are underway to make the content purchasable through digital platforms in the Kingdom. However, that announcement did not establish a specific local release time. Approval and actual store availability are separate stages.

Charting the Unknown has received Saudi approval, but its local digital rollout is still being prepared.

How to Access Content

Character Quests

Complete the main story to unlock the new personal missions for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane through the Journal.

Ocean Adventure

The ocean-focused storyline becomes available after completing Howling Hill and meeting the relevant camp progression requirements. Diving itself does not require a special story unlock.

Home Building

Set up the camp at Howling Hill and complete Luke's Request in the Grounds of the Sunrise faction questline to access expanded housing.

Garden of Trials

Finish the main questline to access the boss-focused combat challenge.

Not every activity opens immediately. Pearl Abyss has tied several of the expansion's systems to progression through the main game, while allowing underwater exploration without a special quest prerequisite. The distinction matters for returning players who expect all the additions to appear as soon as they launch the DLC. The publisher also advises installing the latest game update before starting the new content.

Mostafa's take

The underwater exploration is what interests me most. But the Saudi situation deserves equal attention: approval is encouraging, and players now need the actual store rollout rather than another round of speculation.

Is Charting the Unknown available now?

Yes. Pearl Abyss officially launched the expansion on October 29, 2026, across supported international digital platforms.

Why is Crimson Desert DLC unavailable in Saudi Arabia?

Its regional rollout required regulatory approval. Pearl Abyss confirmed that GMEDIA approval has now been granted and digital availability is being prepared.

Does Charting the Unknown add new stories?

Yes. It adds personal storylines for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane alongside an ocean-focused questline.

Does the Crimson Desert free trial include the expansion?

No. Pearl Abyss states that the trial contains only the Crimson Desert Enhanced base game.

Charting the Unknown gives Crimson Desert players substantial new reasons to return to Pywel, from ocean exploration to deeper character stories and expanded activities. The Saudi launch remains the one complication, although the confirmation of regulatory approval is a positive development. I think the expansion's most interesting strength is its broader approach to exploration rather than simply adding more combat. The world has grown; now players in every supported region deserve the chance to explore it.
