Controller is delayed or not responding properly
How to tell whether delay is the controller, the console or the television.
"My controller is laggy" is usually not the controller. This tells you where the delay actually is before you replace anything.
The test that answers it
Open the console''s own menu — the dashboard, not a game. Move the cursor.
The menu is also delayed → the delay is in the console or the television, not the controller or the game.
The menu is instant, the game is delayed → the game or the network.
If the menus are delayed too
1. Check the television first. This is the cause most of the time. Turn on Game Mode and turn off motion smoothing. A television left in cinema or standard mode adds 80 to 120ms — far more than anything else in the chain.

2. Try the controller wired. If a USB cable removes the delay, it was wireless interference.
3. Restart the console fully.
4. Reduce wireless interference — move closer, remove obstructions, and check how many wireless devices are near the console.
If only the game is delayed
Online games: this is latency, not input lag. See ping and latency and fixing lag.
Offline games: check whether the game is in a quality mode running at 30 frames. Switching to performance mode roughly halves frame-related delay and makes the controller feel considerably more responsive.
Buttons not responding or sticking
That is the controller. Try:
Reset it — the small hole on the back of a DualSense, pressed with a paperclip for five seconds.
Update the controller firmware from the console settings.
Clean around the buttons with compressed air in short bursts. Sticky buttons are usually debris rather than failure.
Test it on another console or a PC to confirm the controller itself is the fault.
If it is the controller
