PS5 error NW-102308-4 — what it means and how to fix it
The PS5 network communication error — what to check, in order.
Sony's message: A communication error has occurred.
A network error rather than a console fault. The fixes are quick, and the order matters because the first two cost nothing.
Fixes, in order
1. Check the PlayStation Network status page before anything else. If PSN is down, nothing on your side will help and you can stop.
2. Restart the router and the console. Unplug the router for thirty seconds. This resolves a surprising share of cases.
3. Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi, or move the console closer to the router. Communication errors are frequently a weak or unstable signal rather than a broken connection.
4. Run the console connection test — Settings, Network, Test Internet Connection — and see whether PSN sign-in succeeds.
5. Enable UPnP on the router if the error appears when joining games rather than browsing.
If it happens only in the evening
That points at congestion rather than a fault. See why games lag at night.
If it happens constantly
Test another device on the same network. If the phone is also struggling, the problem is the line, not the console — contact your provider. See is it your internet, console or the game server for the full method.
If nothing works
If the error persists after all of the above, the console may need inspection. We repair consoles at all our branches except Alexandria, usually within one to three days, and everything is tested before it goes back to you. If it is still under warranty, bring it in rather than opening it — an unauthorised repair attempt voids the cover.
