تشويق أكتر لمٌنتظري مسلسل The Last of Us بعدما كشف كلاً من Neil Druckmann و Craig Mazin لموقع TheNewYorker في أخر مقابله أن Joel في مسلسل The Last of Us يواجه صعوبة في السمع من جانب واحد بسبب طلقة نارية ومشاكل صحيه. وشرح Druckmann الموضوع بشكل أكبر: "في اللعبة Joel شبه خارق للطبيعه، ودا يرجع لأنه أحد متطلبات الالعاب كبطل للعبه"
لكن Mazin مخرج المسلسل تناقش مع Druckmann وأقترح عليه أن Joel في المسلسل محتاج أن يكون أكثر مرونة وليونه كشخص طبيعي.
وكشف عن نقاشهم: "أتكلمنا عن تأثير الخسائر علي حياة Joel جسديًا، فهو يسمع بصعوبة من جانب واحد بسبب طلق ناري, ركبتيه تؤلمه في كل مرة يقف فيها عليهم ".
وعلق Mazin ساخراً: "في اللعبه Joel شخص بمنتصف العمر زي Tom Cruise بالظبط يقدر يعمل أي حاجه, لكن أنا بحب الأبطال في مسلسلاتي بصحه شخص في منتصف العمر."
