PS5 error CE-100005-6 — what it means and how to fix it

Sony's message: The game or application cannot load, or the disc cannot be read.

This appears when the console cannot read what it is being asked to load. The useful first step is finding out whether the fault is the disc or the console.

The test that tells you

Try another disc.

Other discs work → the first disc is the problem. Clean it, check for deep scratches, and try it in another console if you can.

No disc works → the drive or the console. Continue below.

Fixes

1. Clean the disc. A soft dry cloth, wiped from the centre outwards — never in circles. Fingerprints and dust cause more read failures than scratches do.

2. Check the disc is the right way up and is not warped.

3. Power cycle the console. Full shutdown, unplug the power cable for a minute, plug back in and start.

4. Update the system software.

5. Rebuild the database in Safe Mode.

6. Check the console is level and not enclosed. A PS5 in a tight cabinet or at an angle can struggle to read.

When it is the drive

If no disc reads, the console makes unusual noises while loading, or discs are ejected repeatedly, the drive needs inspection. This is a hardware repair rather than a setting.

Bring it to any branch except Alexandria — repairs usually take one to three days and everything is tested before it goes back to you. Do not open the console yourself if it is under warranty.
