PS5 will not turn on

What the light behaviour tells you, and the steps that fix most no-power cases.

Updated

Work through this in order. The light behaviour is the most useful clue, so start by noting exactly what it does.

Read the light first

No light at all → no power reaching the console. Power supply, cable or socket.

Light comes on then goes off → the console is trying to start and failing. Usually software or overheating.

Light blinks and stays blinking → a startup fault.

Light is on but no picture → the console is working; this is an HDMI or TV problem, not a power one. See no signal on the TV.

Steps

1. Test the socket. Plug something else into it. It sounds obvious and it is regularly the answer.

2. Check the power cable at both ends. Unplug and reseat firmly. Try a different cable if you have one — this is a standard kettle-type lead.

3. Power cycle properly. Unplug the power cable from the console, wait a full minute, plug it back in and press the power button. Waiting matters; it lets the internal capacitors discharge.

4. Try Safe Mode. Hold the power button until the second beep. If it enters Safe Mode, the hardware is alive and the problem is software — try Restart, then Rebuild Database. See Safe Mode explained.

5. Check it is not overheating. If the console is hot, is in an enclosed cabinet, or has been shutting down during play, let it cool for an hour and try again in an open space. See overheating.

6. Remove any external drive and any disc, then try again. A faulty USB device can stop a console starting.

After a power cut

Common here, and worth calling out. A sudden loss of power during use can leave the system unable to start cleanly. Safe Mode and Rebuild Database resolve most of these. If the console had a surge rather than a cut, the power supply may be damaged — that is a repair.

When to bring it in

If there is no light after checking the socket and cable, if it enters Safe Mode but fails every option, or if it powers off repeatedly within seconds, it needs inspection.

We repair consoles at all branches except Alexandria, usually within one to three days, and everything is tested before it goes back to you. Do not open it yourself while under warranty — that voids the cover. Call 16280 or WhatsApp 01284316280.
